Coldplay have recorded a new track for the forthcoming Hunger Games movie.

The song, 'Atlas', which is the first to be released from the soundtrack to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, also marks the first time they have ever recorded an original song for a film. 'Atlas' is set be released as a download single on iTunes on August 26. The follow-up to 2012's The Hunger Games, meanwhile will be released in cinemas worldwide on November 22. Arcade Fire and Taylor Swift were among the artists who featured on the soundtrack for the first movie.

"I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film," said director Francis Lawrence. "Their unwavering passion and excitement for the project elevated the collaboration even further, and we can't wait to share this music with audiences around the world."

Earlier this summer, Coldplay's drummer Will Champion also made a cameo in the fantasy series Game Of Thrones. The sticksman appears briefly as a drummer in a rowdy banquet scene, which you can watch below.

Coldplay wrapped up their last world tour in New York on New Year's Eve (2012) and are now believed to be working on their sixth album. Their last LP, 'Mylo Xyloto', came out in October 2011 and went on to sell over eight million copies worldwide.
