Fans wanting to listen to Coldplay's new album on Spotify have been met by a message informing them that the band has chosen to withhold the release from the digital music service.

The band's new album, 'Ghost Stories', is listed on Spotify with all the tracks greyed out, except for their three singles 'Magic', 'Midnight' and 'A Sky Full of Stars'.

A message reads: "The artist or their representatives have decided not to release this album on Spotify. We are working on it and hope they will change their mind soon." The same message appears on The Black Keys' profile for their new album 'Turn Blue' and for Beyoncé's 2013 self-titled album.

A spokesperson from Spotify told The Guardian: "Coldplay has decided not to make 'Ghost Stories' available on Spotify and other streaming services. There are tens of millions of the best music fans in the world using Spotify and we're obviously disappointed at the band's decision to withhold this album from them."

Coldplay also withheld, or 'windowed', their last album 'Mylo Xyloto' from streaming services for four months after its release. The group's first five albums are, however, available now.

Artists who have chosen to withhold their albums from the service but who do not currently have a message listed on their profile page include Thom Yorke's band Atoms For Peace. All of their music was removed from Spotify after bandmate Nigel Godrich said that the streaming service was "bad for new music" in 2013.
