Coldplay's Chris Martin and Cat Power are streaming their new collaboration, which was recorded for a new film by actor/director Zach Braff.

Written by Coldplay frontman Martin and performed by Cat Power on lead vocals, the song takes its name from the title of the film, Wish I Was Here. Listen to the track via NPR. The film is released on July 18 Stateside, with the soundtrack out July 15.

Speaking to NPR, Braff said of the track: "Chris had the idea that it would be sung by a woman. I thought that was a genius idea, because one of the things the film is about is a strong woman (Kate Hudson's character) becoming the matriarch of her family. When Chris and I were talking, we both kind of simultaneously said, 'Cat Power.' I reached out to Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power) and she and I met and really clicked. I set her up to watch the film in her apartment. The whole time she was watching she kept texting me all the different parts she was loving. She said yes the instant it was over."

The song was missing from the cut of the film premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival as it wasn't ready in time. Director Braff previously told Entertainment Weekly that it's "one of the most amazing songs ever".

Best known as star of sitcom Scrubs, Braff directed the 2004 film Garden State. Braff stars in Wish I Was Here as Aidan Bloom, a struggling actor who reluctantly agrees to home-school his father's two young sons. He appealed for the money to make the movie from fans on Kickstarter, a campaign that attracted controversy when it emerged that the project would also receive funding from a New York film company and Braff himself.
