Coldplay have donated £10,000 to a fan suffering from Motor Neurone Disease.

Jody Duff is fundraising for research into the disease and the band pledged the money to his Just Giving page after his friend wrote a letter to them explaining his illness.

Coldplay asked Duff to their second show at London's Royal Albert Hall earlier this month, inviting him to spend time with the band backstage and dedicating 'Fix You' to him. Frontman Chris Martin told the crowd at the show: "We just want to send him, from us and from all of you, as much love as we possibly can."

Speaking to the Mirror, Duff said: "Chris Martin was genuinely interested in learning about motor neurone disease."

Coldplay recently completed a brief world tour in support of their most recent album 'Ghost Stories'. The band's only current forthcoming show is at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas in September 2014.
