Converge speak out about their new album 'All We Love We Leave Behind'

Kurt Ballou tells NME that their eighth studio album is 'a lot more focused'

Converge's Kurt Ballou has gone into detail about their new studio album 'All We Love We Leave Behind'.

The album is the hardcore band's eighth full-length effort of their career to date and is their first since 2009's 'Axe To Fall'.

Speaking to NME about the record, Ballou said that the band had consciously decided to make an album that was "more focused" and had avoided making another record like 2009's 'Axe To Fall', which had over 10 high profile guest stars.

Asked about this, Ballou said: "There's songs are a lot more focused. 'Axe To Fall' functioned better as an album, this functions better as a collection of singles. There were lots of guest appearances on the last album, there aren't any on this one. I'd love to make another record like that, but it didn't sit well this time. We didn't want to become 'That band who has the guest appearances'."

Then asked about how it compared with the band's previous records, Ballou added: "Our older records feel like they made by somebody else to me, because we were all somebody else then. It's important to me we keep going, keep being inspired and keep challenging our audience with what we do."

The guitarist also denied that 'All We Love We Leave Behind' is a political record, saying: "Our albums are always personal, there's politics, but we're not an intended political band. We never intend to be political band. Every member has their own politics, but we don't have a fixed viewpoint."

'All We Love We Leave Behind' will be preceded by a single 'Aimless Arrow', which you can hear at the top of the page. It has been produced by the band's guitarist Kurt Ballou at his Godcity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts.
