Courtney Love fined £60,000 for failing to return jewellery to New York store
Hole singer's sentence comes days after being honoured at Irish university
Courtney Love has been ordered to pay £60,000 to a jeweller after she failed to return items she borrowed for a charity event.
The Hole singer allegedly wore two white gold diamond chains, a white gold mesh bracelet and diamond earrings at an event last year. Love claims she asked staff at New York's Mercer Hotel to return some of the items but a bag containing the rest of them was lost.
A court heard the jeweller Jacob & Co said none of the items were ever returned and consequently sued the singer.
She allegedly filed a police report when the missing gems failed to show up and signed a document agreeing to their return after the charity event.
Manhattan judge Doris Ling-Cohan has now ruled Love must pay up for the missing items as she was responsible for making sure they were returned safely, reports The New York Post.
Love's lawyer James Janowitz praised the judge's decision, adding:
[Jacob] isn't entitled to some ridiculous markup. He's only out of pocket what he paid for them.
