CRAIG DAVID - BO!-ING FOR GOLD
CRAIG DAVID triumphed at the IVOR NOVELLO AWARDS in LONDON this afternoon (May 24), scooping three awards in a ceremony that also saw STEVIE WONDER honoured for his lifetime in music, and the original members of THE CLASH on the same stage togther for the first time in almost 20 years.

David picked up awards for Best Contemporary Song for 'Seven Days', the Ivors Dance Award for 'Woman Trouble' and was Songwriter Of The Year jointly with co-writer Mark Hill for the same song.

Speaking to NME.COM moments ago, David could barely contain his delight: "It is totally amazing," he grinned. "I could never have dreamed of picking up an Ivor Novello for anything... but for Songwriter Of The Year it's just amazing."

Stevie Wonder, who earlier today told NME.COM of a desire to work with David, received a five-minute standing ovation as he took to the stage to receive his Special International Award. An emotional Wonder told the audience he intended to keep on making music.

"I feel it is only my duty for the rest of my life to continue to do everything that I can, to take in everything, every kind of music, to read and watch every film and TV programme, to hear and listen objectively, to even my own music, to give you the very best that I can, because I know the father demands that of me."

And the original members of The Clash - Joe Strummer, Topper Headon, Paul Simonon and Mick Jones - stood together again as they picked up the award for Outstanding Contribution To British Music. Pete Townshend, the man who presented them with the gong, was late presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other winners at today's lavish bash at the Grosvenor House Hotel were:
'Babylon' by David Gray - Best Song Musically And Lyrically
'Pure Shores' by All Saints - Performing Rights Society Most Performed Work
'Gormenghast' by Sir Richard Rodney Bennett - Best Original Music For A Television Or Radio Broadcast
