US hard rockers CREED have held onto the top spot in the US Billboard album chart for an unprecedented eighth week (week ending January 26) with their third album 'WEATHERED'.
In so doing, the four-piece - who remain little known in the UK - become only the third artist after N Sync ('No Strings Attached') and Eminem ('The Marshall Mathers LP') to top the chart on the first eight weeks of their record's release.
'Weathered' sold just 138,000 copies last week, but it was still enough to keep Linkin Park, 2000's biggest seller in the US, at Number Two with 'Hybrid Theory'. Meanwhile, rapper Ludacris' 'Word Of Mouf' remains at Number Three after selling 83,000 copies and Nickelback's 'Silver Side Up' slides from Two to Four, shifting 81,000 units.
There is little other movement in the chart, with the higher positions bulked up by recent good performers from Nas, Pink and Alicia Keys amongst others.
The highest new entry comes at 25, with the soundtrack to the new Sean Penn film 'I Am Sam'. The collection features Beatles
covers by artists including Eddie Vedder, Black Crowes, Nick Cave and Paul Westerberg.
