Reunited band top bill at Sydney event
The reformed Crowded House have been confirmed as headliners for the Australian leg of the international Live Earth event.
The show will mark their first Australian appearance since their Farewell To The World concert on the steps of Sydney Opera House in 1996.
As previously reported on NME.COM, Live Earth will take place across seven continents on July 7, beginning at Aussie Stadium in Sydney and culminating in The Police-headlined finale in New Jersey.
Speaking via satellite at the launch in Sydney today (May 8), Live Earth supremo Al Gore hoped the enormity of the concerts would send an “urgent, hopeful message” to governments around the world.
He said: “Live Earth will touch over two billion people with 24 hours of live music across seven continents and an urgent, hopeful message to trigger a worldwide movement to combat the climate crisis.”
Others bands on the Sydney bill include local rockers Wolfmother, and Hollywood starlet Toni Collette, who will appear with her band The Finish.
Crowded House frontman Neil Finn remained optimistic about the general public and governmental reaction to the event.
He commented: "This concert may not get many people to specifically change their way of living, but it's just part of a big awareness shift, I think."
Ticket for the Sydney concert will go onsale May 18 at ticketek.com.
