SUPERFLY GUY DEAD

Curtis Mayfield soul singer and social conscience for a generation has died at the age of 57.

Born on June 3, 1942, he was most famous as a member of the Impressions who had a hit with the song 'People Get Ready' and as a solo artist with his soundtrack to the 1972 film 'Superfly' which inspired future generations of gangsta rappers.

In 1990, Mayfield was paralysed from the neck down when a lighting rig fell on him. He continued to record new material even after the accident
