Welcome to the Daily Gossip: your daily stop-off to find out who in the world of music has been up to what.

Today's top gossip:

Italian officials have defended spending a reported £640,000 of EU public funding money on an Elton John gig. The donated cash was initially to be used for regional development in the country, and some MP's have complained that a gig by the Rocket Man doesn't really constitute that. However, Dario Scalabrini, a former head of the region of Campania's tourism office, remained impressively defiant. "I don't understand the problem," he said. "We would have used EU funds to pay (Paul) McCartney too," (Guardian).

From the papers:

Rochelle Wiseman from The Saturdays and Marvin Humes from JLS have split up. No word yet on how the music world will survive without this cataclysmically talented duo joined at the hip (The Sun).

Noel Gallagher's obviously trying to get his hands on Dave Grohl's 'nicest man in rock' title. He paid for a group of his mates to travel first class from London to Manchester ahead of Wednesday's (November 10) derby between City and United, and then put them up in the city's five-star Radisson Edwardian hotel (Daily Star).

Alice Cooper still has it. He says he wants to work on a musical with Noel Fielding, and also digs The Horrors. "The guitarist is amazing," he said of Joshua Hayward (Daily Star).

Natasha Bedingfield returns, sounding like she's trying to be David Brent. "I strip it back and keep it real, that's the kind of person I am," she said (Daily Record).
