Damon Albarn: 'the rest of Blur hate me'

Recording is a no go, but lunch was fun says singer

Blur's Damon Albarn says he believes the band's reunion fell apart because the rest of the group "hate" him and don’t want to work with the singer.

Albarn who is currently working on new projects with his Gorillaz and collaborators, spoke to The Sun about why the proposed reunion did not happen.

"I had dinner with the guys recently and it was laugh but there’s no way they want to work with me again – they all hate me," he said. "A reunion is not going to happen."

He also said the rest of the group weren’t as committed as him, saying: "Alex(James, bassist) is writing books and making cheese and Dave (Rowntree, drummer) is moving into politics. I’ve always said if you want to be a musician you have to dedicate yourself to it and do it every day."

The singer, possibly having a dig at other big name bands who have reunited over the past year, added that he was not too upset the reunion did not take place, saying: "The only reason people would do it is for the money - but I don’t need the money."

Albarn's comments follow those from guitarist Graham Coxon yesterday (January 31), who told NME.COM Blur were naive to think they could go back into the studio last year.

With the the exception of a few flashes of genius (Beetlebum, Coffee and TV, Out of Time), Blur have been in decline since 1996. Gorillaz and TGTBATQ are really what the past 3 Blur albums should have sounded like. All four members have very much moved on in radically different directions and don't really need Blur any more. My advice to them is to never reform and become legends like The Smiths.

Albarn has the right to have an ego. Blur had a good run and the idea of recording another album would just be a rehash of what has already been done.

This makes me really sad but I'm glad they went out on a good note and haven't decided to drag themselves out like a certain other band......*coughrollingstones*
Good to know when they know when it's enough.
I still wish I could've seen them.

i don't think the reunion is a good idea..
since they are likely to hate each other,
that is going to be a bad record anyway if it still happen,,

actually i just want to see them gather around together again,,happily,,
so if it possible for recording a new album, that will be a great album : )
