Damon Albarn's 'Monkey' opera build own themed London theatre

Gorillaz creators' production heads back to the capital

'Monkey: Journey To The West', the opera created by Gorillaz team Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, is set to be performed in its own purpose-built theatre in London.

Monkey's World will be created in the Meridian Gardens next to the O2 Arena.

The opera will be staged between November 8 to December 5, also with matinees on Thursdays and Sundays.

'Monkey: Journey To The West' was previously performed at the capital's Royal Opera House after it's premiere at the Manchester international Festival.

Hewlett and Albarn were asked to adapt characters and music from the opera for the BBC's coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and an album featuring adapted music from the show reached Number Five in the UK Album Chart recently.

Tickets for the opera go on sale this Friday (September 12) at 9am (BST).
