Damon Albarn debuted new song 'Mr Tembo' during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel's US chat show last night (March 12) – click below to watch.

The track is taken from Albarn's forthcoming solo album 'Everyday Robots', which is due for release on April 28.

Albarn previously revealed that he wrote 'Mr Tembo' for a baby elephant he met in Tanzania, and told Rolling Stone that he had not initially considered it worthy of inclusion on the album. He was convinced to do so by producer Richard Russell.

Albarn said: "…a song like 'Mr Tembo', which I never would have considered recording, because I put that in my 'songs I write for other things', like for kids' birthdays, or in this case, it was for a baby elephant I met in a place called Mkomazi, in Tanzania. It was recently orphaned and walked onto this aerodrome; the people I know took it in and called it Mr Tembo. I was there, and I met this little elephant, and he was very sweet. I sang it to him. It was recorded on a phone, and in a light-hearted moment, I put it on a list for Richard. He said, 'I'd really like you to try that' – so I did."

Albarn also performed 'Lonely Press Play' on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Damon Albarn recently picked up the NME Award For Innovation at the NME Awards 2014 with Austin, Texas. Following his appearance at this week's SXSW festival in Austin, he will return to the UK to perform two special London shows, at the Rivioli Ballroom in Crofton Park on April 30 and at the People's Palace in Mile End on May 1. He will also headline this summer's Latitude Festival.
