D'Angelo has pulled a string of dates in the US after he was admitted to hospital.

The Chicago Tribune reports that in addition to cancelling last week's dates in New York and Maryland and last night's show in Minneapolis, the singer has now pulled his show tomorrow (August 7) at the Chicago's House of Blues venue. He has also cancelled Saturday's show in San Diego and is also unlikely to perform on Friday at the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco.

A statement from the promoters Live Nation said D'Angelo was forced to cancel the shows due to a "medical emergency" and "expresses his sincere regret due to this unfortunate circumstance". An agent for the singer reportedly added, "It's serious, but he should be OK."

Back in March, D'Angelo performed a rare live show in New York alongside ?uestlove of The Roots at Brooklyn Bowl. The pair played a set comprising new material, old hits and cover versions of Prince, Sly & the Family Stone and The SOS Band.
After releasing two landmark soul albums – 'Brown Sugar' in 1995 and 'Voodoo' in 2000, D'Angelo, real name Michael Archer, has kept a low profile but began playing sporadically last year.
