Dave Grohl has poked fun at Britney Spears after reports that she was passed over for a residency in Las Vegas in favour of a hypnotist – watch the clip below.

The Foo Fighters frontman is filling in for US talk show host Chelsea Handler for a special string of Grammy episodes of the programme Chelsea Lately, Rolling Stone reports. Speaking about Britney Spears, he said: "She just kinda seems dead inside, like there's nothing behind her eyes… Like there's nothing in her boobs anymore!"

According to Billboard, Spears' manager Larry Rudolph says she is still in "deep negotiations" to headline a Las Vegas residency in the near future. "I’d be shocked if it didn’t happen," he said. "[We're] hoping to have a deal done very soon."

Earlier this year, Spears officially announced that she would not be returning for season three of the US version of The X Factor, leading to speculation that she was set to take on a Vegas residency.

Grohl, meanwhile, is busy promoting his documentary on the legendary Sound City recording studios. Sound City is available to watch now at soundcitymovie.com The film's soundtrack will come out on March 11, and will include the Paul McCartney-featuring track, 'Cut Me Some Slack' as well as many more from Grohl's Sound City Players band, which features members of Nirvana and Foo Fighters as well as Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty, Rick Springfield, Fear's Lee Ving, Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen, Brad Wilk Of Rage Against The Machine, Alain Johannes, Chris Goss.

The band played their second gig at The Palladium in Hollywood last week (January 31), following their debut at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. The epic Hollywood gig, which comprised 38 songs and lasted for three and half hours, followed the Los Angeles premiere of Sound City. The band will also play a one-off show at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom on February 13.
