Dave Grohl's Sound City Players supergroup performed in London last night (Feb 19), a day after the UK premiere of the Sound City documentary.

The band, made up of the regular touring members of Foo Fighters, were joined by '80s icon Rick Springfield, Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen and singer Lee Ving of the band Fear.

The lineup was also augmented by singer and producer Chris Goss, Queens Of The Stone Age collaborator Alain Johannes and Grohl's former Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic. Ving reveal that it was his first time performing in the UK, while Grohl warned fans they were in for a "marathon" towards the start of the two-and-a-half hour set.

Each musician played songs from their own back catalogue as well as some original compositions that were recorded during the making of the Sound City documentary. Contrary to widespread rumour, Paul McCartney, who features in the documentary, did not make an appearance. Actor Simon Pegg, a longtime Grohl fan, was among the audience.

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins took over lead vocals for most of the Cheap Trick set, while Grohl himself finally took lead vocals only on the set closing anthem 'Surrender'.
