Legendary music producer dies

He was 74

Arif Mardin the legendary music producer who worked with David Bowie, Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield has died aged 74, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Mardin was a producer and arranger at Atlantic Records between 1963 and 2001 and later set up Manhattan records, a subsidiary of EMI, who signed Norah Jones.

He won the best producer at the Grammy Awards in 1976 and 2003, he was the holder of more than 40 gold and platinum discs.

In career spanning four decades, he worked with the likes of Carly Simon, Phil Collins and Barbara Streisand.

He will be buried in his native Istanbul next week, reports the BBC.
