‘Aladdin Sane’ photographer Brian Duffy dies
Iconic photographer succumbs to lung disease
The man who shot the cover of David Bowie’s 1973 album ‘Aladdin Sane’ has died.
Brian Duffy also took the picture on the cover of the 1979 Bowie album ‘Lodger’.
Born in the East End of London, Duffy studied painting at St Martin’s School of Art in the 1950s, but changed his mind and switched to a fashion design course.
Duffy joined Vogue magazine in 1957 to work as a fashion photographer.
He shot celebrities, musicians and models throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including Black Sabbath, Blondie and John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
Duffy was 76.
