David Bowie is going head-to-head with Bon Jovi to score his first ever US Number One Album.

'The Next Day', which was released in the US on March 12, is tipped to come out top in the battle against Bon Jovi's 'What About Now' when the Billboard 200 is announced next Wednesday (March 20).

According to Billboard, industry experts suggest Bowie's comeback album is on course to selling around 90,000 copies by Sunday. If successful, the record will be the legendary singer's first US Number One Album. His previous best was Number Three with 1976 album 'Station To Station'.

If Bon Jovi come out top in the battle, however, it will be the American rock band's fifth US Number One Album, and their third consecutive record to top the Billboard 200. The 'Livin' On A Prayer' group's two previous studio releases (2009's 'The Circle' and 2007's 'Lost Highway') both entered at Number One.

Meanwhile, back in the UK, David Bowie is almost guaranteed to be Number One this Sunday with his new album 'The Next Day' set to become the fastest selling album of 2013 so far.

Most recent Official Chart Company data shows that 'The Next Day’s has sold 66,000 copies, just 5,600 copies behind the current fastest selling album of the year, Biffy Clyro's 'Opposites'. The Scottish band sold 71,600 copies of their album during its first full week on sale back in January.
