David Bowie's appearance on Arcade Fire's 'Reflektor' single confirmed
An official announcement on Facebook says that Bowie 'supplied a brief backing vocal' on the track
A message posted on Bowie's official Facebook page this evening said: "We can confirm that David Bowie has supplied a brief backing vocal on the James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) produced track (no saxophone though), which is being issued under the alias of The Reflektors in the reflekting sleeve pictured here."
The post also solves the mystery of the single sleeve for the release, which appeared to feature an album tracklisting. These 'track names' are apparently lyrics from the new release. "The reverse of the sleeve is designed to look like it has an album tracklisting for the upcoming album due on October 28, but it is in fact just snippets of lyrics from Reflektor," says the message.

Arcade Fire have also released an interactive video. The film was produced by the band's longtime collaborator Vincent Morisset. According to the text accompanying the video at justareflektor.com, the Just A Reflektor film is "an interactive short film that explores the themes in Arcade Fire's 'Reflektor' through two devices simultaneously: the computer and smartphone/tablet. Filmed in Haiti, where the band's singer Régine Chassagne was raised, the story follows a young woman who travels between her world an our own." The film was shot in Jacmel and features the track 'Reflektor' in full. Users must have the Google Chrome web browser to interact with the film.
The band previously experimented with online interactive videos with The Wilderness Downtown and Neon Bible. You can read about the making of the video and the technology behind it here.
