De La Soul to give back catalogue away for free

Hip-hop trio will celebrate 25 years of '3 Feet High and Rising' with 25-hour giveaway

De La Soul have announced that they will make their entire back catalogue free to download later on today (February 14).

The US trio will celebrate next month's 25th anniversary of their debut album '3 Feet High And Rising' by making all of their music available for 25 hours via their official website. The offer will start at 4PM GMT until Saturday at 5PM.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about their decision to gift fans with their music free of charge, Posdnuos of the group says: "It's about allowing our fans who have been looking and trying to get a hold of our music to have access to it. It's been too long where our fans haven't had access to everything. This is our way of showing them how much we love them."

De La Soul are expected to release new album 'You're Welcome' later in 2014 but admit that their own high standards have delayed the album's release. "We have tons of music, but we're our own worst critics," admits the rapper. "Certain groups have too many 'yes men.' In our group, we have too many 'no men.' When we look back on some of the stuff we have, we're like, 'Yo, we need to just put this out.'"

The group are also believed to be working on an EP titled 'Preemium Soul on the Rocks' and an untitled project featuring unreleased J Dilla production.
