Deftones bassist hospitalised after 'terrible' car accident Deftones Tickets

Chi Cheng is in a 'serious, but stable' condition says Chino Moreno

Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has been hospitalised after being involved in what singer Chino Moreno called a "terrible" car crash.

The incident, which took place on Monday (November 3), resulted in Cheng being taken to the intensive care unit at a hospital in northern California, where he remains in a "serious, but stable" condition according to Moreno.

Writing on the Deftones blog, Moreno asked fans to pray for Cheng.

"It deeply saddens me to inform you all that our brother Chi Cheng was involved in a terrible car accident last night. He is currently in a northern California hospital in a serious, but stable condition," he explained.

"I am on my way up north right now to be by his side along with the rest of our bandmates and family. Chi is one of the strongest people I know, and I'm praying that his strength will get him through this. Please say a prayer for him as well."

Horrible news about Chi being in a car crash and now in a coma.Positive thoughts go out to him, his family and all his friends and of course the rest of Deftones. It's not time to be hanging with Bukowski or Hunter yet, so stay strong Chi and make a speedy and full recovery. I'm off to listen to 'Around The Fur'.......defsteveLiverpool, UK

I don't really know anything about the Deftones but having nursed someone close through a terrible accident myself earlier this year, my love and best wishes go to him, his family and his band. he will need all their strength and more to get through this. Much Love.

Yeah again I've never really heard their music, but he's a human being and theirs too many ignorant pricks who if they didn't like the band would laugh. Get well soon mate, i wish you a full speedy recovery :)

Then if any good comes out of this at all, i hope a few more people discover the Deftones. They're always ahead of the game and in a league of their own. I'm not a massive fan of metal, but the Deftones are sublime. Once again, lets hope Chi pulls through and they can put the finishing touches to Eros

Once again Soundedd shows his complete ignorance to the music. Deftones are the best band of their genre by a long shot. They are the kind of band that people who don't normally like heavy music (like me) can appreciate. Be quiet and drive is a classic song. Get well soon Chi.

Deftones are sublime. When you listen to their music, you enter an amazing realm of consciousness. I'm thankful for having been able to see them in Vancouver, B.C. This band creates in ideal harmony with eachother. I'm saddened by the news and worried because Deftones are one of a few gems. I wish for the super talented bass player to recover very well and for the entire band and relatives to be comforted.

Yup, soundedd clearly lacking in any musical knowledge yet again.I reckon it's a user account by NME staff. Surely no real person can be that oblivious to good music and have such a defunct life or be such a social retard.

Tell us what you think. We’ll print the best responses in the NME letters page each week.
