Deftones are set to release a new album in early 2012.

The band are already working on the follow-up to 2010's 'Diamond Eyes' and following their summer festival commitments they are planning to knuckle down hard on work for it. Speaking to Billboard, singer Chino Moreno said: "If all goes well hopefully we'll have some product for early next year."

The album will be the band's second to feature stand-in bassist Sergio Vega, after original member Chi Cheng fell into a coma after an accident in 2008. "Sergio is great," Moreno said. "He's a great dude and he's doing a great job and we're just rolling with where we're at right now, and we'll see what happens."

He added: "We're hoping that he's [Cheng] gonna be back on his feet sooner than later, but who knows. It's just going to take time, and all we can do is be patient and just hope for the best."

Deftones are set to play the Reading And Leeds Festivals this August. To check the availability of Reading And Leeds Festivals tickets, go to NME.COM/tickets or call 0871 230 1094.
