And accompanying film

Devendra Banhart has revealed details of his new album, tentatively titled ’Smokey’.

Posting on his official site xlrecordings.com/cripplecrow, the singer said he would begin recording the album in September in California and Rio de Janeiro. Production will be handled by Banhart and Noah Georgeson.

Banhart said that the album would contain two distinctive parts.

He said: “[It] is half extremely mellow, breezy, one quarter melancholic drone bummer and one quarter equatorial pop. It’s been a rough year and the album is about simple hopes.”

Banhart added that he hoped the album would feature a number of guest performers, including folk legend Vashti Bunyan and Banhart-affiliated band Vetiver.

As well as the name of the album, ’Smokey’ is also set to be the title of the film that is set to accompany the set’s release.

Describing the film, he wrote: “It’s a one or so hour collection of tours, the writing and recording of the album and images that make up Devendra’s home and life, it will have sound but be mostly scored.”
