Devo preview new material at SXSW

New wave icons combine old and new in rousing set

Devo preview new material at SXSW

DEVO previewed several songs from their first new studio album in 19 years at their showcase SXSW performance at the Austin Music Hall last night (March 20).

Wearing their trademark haz-mat jump suits and red cone hats, the veteran new wave band worked the crowd into a frenzy by playing several old favourites including 'Peek-A-Boo', 'Whip It' and 'Girl U Want'.

The band were accompanied by an elaborate video display that showed the band's body parts at various unflattering angles.

The band displayed tremendous energy when debuting new tracks from the album due out this autumn, which were relatively heavy on guitars and light on synthesisers compared to their previous material.

They concluded the night by throwing several red cone hats into the audience.

DEVO played:

'Don’t Shoot, I’m A Man' (new song)
'Peek-A-Boo'
'What We Do' (new song)
'Going Under'
'Fresh' (new song)
'That’s Good'
'Girl U Want'
'Whip It'
'Secret Agent Man'
'(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction'
'Uncontrollable Urge'
'Mongoloid'
'Smart Patrol'/'Mr. DNA'
'Gates Of Steel'
'Devo Corporate Anthem'
'Freedom Of Choice'
'Jocko Homo'
'Gut Feeling'
'Beautiful World'
