DIANA ROSS AVOIDS RETURN TO JAIL

Phew...

Diana Ross will not have to return to jail, after a judge ruled she had fulfilled the terms of her previous sentence.

The 59 year-old diva was arrested in December 2002 after being spotted driving the wrong way on a road in Tucson, Arizona.

She admitted being two times over the legal drink drive limit and was given a 48-hour sentence in Greenwich, Connecticut where she lives.

But an Arizona judge last month found that Diana Ross had failed to serve 24 consecutive hours as required by state law.

Magistrate T Jay Cranshaw said Diana Ross had left jail three times while serving her 48-hour sentence and was released for good an hour early.

He reconsidered his ruling after appeals by Ross' lawyers. Prosecutors also supported the plea that her jail term should be considered fulfilled, BBC News reports.

Her sentence also includes at least 36 hours of alcohol abuse treatment.
