DIIV reveal new song 'Dust' during rehearsal video
Band reveal they hope to release follow up to 2012's 'Oshiin' next March
The home-shot footage was uploaded to DIIV's Tumblr last night (June 20) along with the lyrics to the track and a note which reveals the band hope to have their second album, the follow up to 2012's 'Oshiin', out in March. "Here’s a rough rehearsal in the practice space, look for this song and two or three other new ones at our upcoming shows — SF, Europe, Korea, and Japan," reads the accompanying note. "Hoping for the new record to be recorded in November/December and released as soon as March."
DIIV will return to the UK for performances at a number of festivals this Summer, including T In The Park and Reading And Leeds. The band cancelled their last European tour, including scheduled shows at The Great Escape in Brighton, London's Heaven and Primavera in Barcelona in May.
Speaking to NME, at the time, frontman Zachary Cole Smith said: "I have to be off the road. I've been touring in various formations for three years, and the past year of my life has been completely given over to being on the road." He went on to explain the growing pressure he felt to keep the band touring, and worrying whether the growing team around him got paid or not has finally taken its toll on him, leading him to cancel their forthcoming dates.
Smith said the band had been busy writing and recording the follow-up to 2012's 'Oshin' with Chet 'JR' White, formerly of Girls in San Francisco, and that the music they were making involved a lot of improvisation, compared to the "very deliberate" nature of their debut.
