DIONNE ESCAPES DOPE RAP

A plea bargain is agreed over the singer's alleged possession of marijuana joints...

Drug charges against soul diva DIONNE WARWICK have been dropped after her lawyers and the MIAMI judge agreed a plea bargain.

As previously revealed on NME.COM, Warwick, cousin of Witney Houston, was arrested at Miami International Airport on May 12 after baggage handlers allegedly found 11 marijuana joints in her luggage - about five grams.

As part of the plea bargain, the singer agreed to complete a drug treatment and evaluation programme. She also made a $250 donation to Project Cradle, an organisation that supports children born with HIV. The singer was not in court to enter her plea.

"To this day, I am puzzled about exactly what happened at the Miami International Airport," she said in a statement. "But through the grace of God, I can now put this unpleasant chapter behind me."

Warwick's work with Hal David and Burt Bacharach produced more than 30 US hits between 1962 and 1972, including best known track 'Walk On By'.
