Dionne's sister and collaborator dies in New Jersey

Dee Dee Warwick, the sister of famed singer Dionne Warwick, and cousin of Whitney Houston, has passed away in New Jersey. She was 63.

Dionne Warwick was with her sister when she died on Saturday morning at a nursing home in Essex County after a period of ill health.

After getting her start as a gospel singer, Dee Dee Warwick enjoyed a successful career as a soul singer in the 1960s with hits such as ‘She Didn't Know (She Kept on Talking)’ and ‘Foolish Fool’.

Nominated twice for a Grammy, Warwick was a background vocalist for stars including Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett in her early days, reports the Associated Press.

She provided backing vocals to ‘My Music & Me’, a musical based on the life of her sister Dionne, and sang on her gospel album ‘Why We Sing’ which came out at the start of this year.
