Dee Dee Warwick passes away age 63

Dionne's sister and collaborator dies in New Jersey

Dee Dee Warwick, the sister of famed singer Dionne Warwick, and cousin of Whitney Houston, has passed away in New Jersey. She was 63.

Dionne Warwick was with her sister when she died on Saturday morning at a nursing home in Essex County after a period of ill health.

After getting her start as a gospel singer, Dee Dee Warwick enjoyed a successful career as a soul singer in the 1960s with hits such as ‘She Didn't Know (She Kept on Talking)’ and ‘Foolish Fool’.

Nominated twice for a Grammy, Warwick was a background vocalist for stars including Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett in her early days, reports the Associated Press.

She provided backing vocals to ‘My Music & Me’, a musical based on the life of her sister Dionne, and sang on her gospel album ‘Why We Sing’ which came out at the start of this year.

I remember when I was an adolescent how my sister and I would remark how much we liked her voice. Strangely so just within the past 6 months, she crossed my mind and I wondered where was she and what was she doing.Sorry to hear of hear passing.Houstonhttp://4simplestepstosinging.com

I was 11 years young and I felt every word Dee Dee sang because her soul was in those words. And it taught me how powerful and emotion was. Thank You Sister Dee Dee.R.I.P.
