Dirty Projectors 'making beats' for Solange
Projectors honcho Dave Longstreth reveals that he is "making beats" for Beyoncé's younger sister
The soul singer - younger sister of Beyonce - recorded a cover of the band's R&B-flavoured single 'Stillness In The Move' in 2009. She has since performed the song with the Dirty Projectors onstage.
Now a studio collaboration is being mooted. In an interview with The Guardian, Longstreth said of Solange: "We're buds. I'm making some beats for her. It's at a germinative state right now. She's very busy and it might not be her top priority to just put together an album."
Longstreth also admitted that he is a harsh taskmaster when working in the studio with his Dirty Projectors bandmates, who include girlfriend Amber Coffman. "When we're talking about friendships," he said, "generosity and fairness and equanimity and sharing and all those things are super-important to me. [But] when it comes to music I am a dictator. Making a Dirty Projectors record come to life is like making a movie - I'm the one that makes the picture and then we all figure out how to realise it."
Dirty Projectors release their latest album, 'Swing Lo Magellan', on Monday (July 9). A three-date UK tour will follow in October. Solange released her last album, 'Sol-Angel And The Hadley St Dreams', in 2008.
