Dizzee Rascal has signed a record deal with Universal Music.

The rapper has teamed up with a major label for the first time in his career for a "multi-layered" deal, reports The Sun.

He recorded his 2009 album 'Tongue N' Cheek' on his own label Dirtee Stank. He was also involved with XL prior to that.

The deal comes after Universal recently concluded a deal to purchase the recorded music division of EMI for £1.2 billion, which includes artists such as The Beatles, Coldplay and Tinie Tempah.

Dizzee is expected to release his fifth studio effort in 2012. He recently said he would like to team up with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Kanye West and OutKast's Andre 3000 on the album.

He said: "I'd love to have him [Grohl] in the studio just to see how he views things. I've done rock with the Arctic Monkeys and it was just second nature."

The rapper added:

I'd love for Dave to produce a track, or just get his perspective and get some of the shit he knows.
