Dizzee Rascal previews new material at Benicassim Dizzee Rascal Tickets
The Stone Roses and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds also play third day of Spanish bash
The London rapper opened his set in the early hours of Sunday morning with an intense, Prodigy-esque tune dominated by huge synth riffs called 'Let The Bass Drop', with the chorus line "Let the bass drop and let the drums kick", and also featuring the lyrics "Living it large I'm large and in charge".
Also new was 'Bassline Junkie', which Dizzee introduced with the explanation "some people like to drink, and some people like to take drugs, but me, I'm a bassline junkie". The intensely dancey track featured the lines "I don' want no smack I don't want no heroin/ I don't need no coke you can keep your ketamine" and the chorus line "Big dirty stinking bass". In a set that included crowd-pleasing tracks such as oldies 'I Luv U' and 'Jus A Rascal', Dizzee also dropped his collaboration with DJ Fresh, unveiled at the recent Hackney Weekender, 'The Power', again dominated by abrasive synths.
During 'Dirtee Disco', the rapper suffered technical difficulties, starting the song twice and abandoning it, taking advantage of the unplanned pause to take Instagram photos of the crowd. When the sound problem was rectified, Dizzee said "I'm not starting that song again, I like it, but not that much," before moving on to Calvin Harris collaboration 'Dance Wiv Me'.
Dizzee also paid tribute to the large number of British festival goers, saying: "I love the energy, it's wicked. Brits abroad and all that. When you get Brits abroad, there's trouble".

Early on in the day, Dublin indie rock troupe Delorentos opened up the main Maravillas stage s. Over on the Fibclub stage their countrymen Ham Sandwich offered up folk-tinged rock including a cover of Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill'. School Of Seven Bells on the Maravillas Stage and Fujiya and Miyagi on the Fibclub stage, meanwhile, offered chilled, psychedelic early evening sets, before Jessie J, once more covering Usher's 'Climax', and Buzzcocks on the Trident Senses stage kicked things up a notch.
Opening with '(It's Good To Be) Free', Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds opened for the Stone Roses in front of a huge crowd at the Maravillas stage. In a set that included Oasis tracks 'Talk Tonight', 'Whatever' and 'Half The World Away', Noel dedicated 'AKA... What A Life!' to "all the people that have come from Manchester".
Ian Brown greeted the crowd in Spanish before The Stone Roses opened with 'I Wanna Be Adored', John Squire in flashy red silk shirt and Brown sporting a white T-shirt with a neck printed with feathers very close in style to the famous "money shirt" he wore in the band's heyday. A stretched-out version of 'Where Angels Play' gave each band member a chance to shine, while 'Fools Gold' and 'Shoot You Down' elicited ecstatic responses for the mammoth crowd.
By the time Crystal Castles closed the stage, the crowd had diminished a little, but the duo played a dazzlingly intense set, opening with 'Baptism'. They once more played the new song they debuted at Manchester's Parklife festival dominated by stabbing organ-toned chords and a sledgehammering beat, which Alice Glass later confirmed is titled 'Plague'. Glass made frequent forays into the crowd and atop the drumkit, playing 'Celestica', 'Alice Practice', 'and 'Suffocation' among others, before closing with 'Not In Love'.
Benicassim continues today with performances from Howler, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, The Vaccines and New Order.
