DJ SHADOW - LORD OF THE DANCE

The Chemical Brothers and Orbital follow closely behind...

DJ SHADOW's 'ENDTRODUCING' has been named the best dance album of all time by MUZIK magazine.

The hugely influential 1996 opus by the Californian (real name Josh Davis) pips heavyweight opposition by names like Primal Scream, the Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Fatboy Slim, - Modjo, Leftfield and New Order.

The Chemical Brothers' 1995 debut 'Exit Planet Dust' is Number Two in the chart one ahead of Orbital's 'Untitled (The Brown Album). The chart, compiled by Muzik writers, is being billed as the first definitive list of the Top 50 dance artists albums ever released.

Questions are sure to be asked by fans over some of the contributions. Fatboy Slim's 2000 album 'Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars' at 25 marks his only appearance on the chart. His worldwide breakthrough album 'You've Come A Long Way, Baby' (1998) is nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Kraftwerk's 'Trans-Europe Express', an album credited by many as kick-starting modern electronic dance, only just creeps into the Top Ten at Nine. Influential art-punk terrorists Throbbing Gristle find a place on the chart (at 38) with their '20 Jazz Funk Greats', from 1979, but there are no places for any releases by artists such as Sly & The Family Stone, Chic, Funkadelic or Donna Summer.

Muzik is inviting fans to respond by e-mailing messages to muziktop50@ipcmedia.com.

In the same edition of the magazine, just about to hit the shelves, there is a free CD carrying tracks from many of those on the Top 50 including - Bjork, Underworld and- Tricky.
