DJ Shadow has told a crowd in New York that he will never serve up "bullshit" during one of his DJ sets.
The incident happened last week, before he played the set in Miami which saw him kicked off the decks for playing a set that was "too future".
DJ Shadow thanked the crowd at the Brooklyn Bowl – via DJ Times - for letting him "do something different".
He said:
I know it'd probably be a lot easier on all of us if I just got up here and played the same old […] hits that we've heard 500,000 times before, but I feel like, as a DJ, I would be dying inside.
The DJ – real name Josh Davis – added: "I would never take your respect for me and your money that you paid to get in for granted by serving you up some bullshit. So, for me, this is like a breath of fresh air in my life. I haven't been able to do this in a long time."
Then, as previously reported, he was thrown off the decks in Miami a couple of days later. After being asked to leave the decks at the Mansion nightclub he told the crowd: "I've waited a long time to play here, but they said this shit is too future for all y'all."
Shadow later wrote on Twitter: "I don't care if I get kicked out of every rich kid club on the planet. I will never sacrifice my integrity as a DJ…ever".
DJ Shadow released his debut album 'Endtroducing…' in 1996. He followed it up with 1998’s 'Preemptive Strike', 2002’s 'The Private Press', 2006's 'The Outsider' and 'The Less You Know, The Better' in 2011. Earlier this year, he put out 'Total Breakdown: Hidden Transmissions From MPC Era 1992-1996' – a collection of previously unreleased material.
