DMX PLEAS "RELEASE ME!"

Rapper DMX has been released from jail in the US, pending an appeal against his prison sentence for driving without a licence and possession of marijuana.

As reported on nme.com yesterday (May 4), DMX gave himself up to New York police early Wednesday morning (May 3) over an outstanding arrest warrant.

DMX, real name Earl Simmons, pleaded guilty in Cheektowaga Justice Court to charges of driving with a suspended license and marijuana possession, and was sentenced to 15 days in prison with no bail.

However, he was released pending appeal later that day. Lawyers representing DMX are appealing against the sentence, calling it "excessive". DMX will be released until a future appeal trial date, which is yet to be finalised.

A warrant for the rapper's arrest was originally issued after DMX missed a scheduled court date on March 23, when he was to face charges relating an original arrest on March 3, for driving without a licence and possession of marijuana.
