DMX TAKES THE RAP

Rapper DMX has been indicted in NEW YORK on charges of carrying an unlicensed handgun and possession of marijuana.

According to US reports, DMX, real name Earl Simmons was indicted in White Plains, Winchester County, New York on Wednesday (June 28) for possession of marijuana, and two charges of criminal possession of a weapon.

All the charges relate to an incident on January 13 this year when the 29-year-old Ruff Ryders star crashed his Jeep in to the central reservation of a road in Harrison, New York. When police arrived, they claim they found a loaded and unlicensed pistol, as well as two ashtrays containing marijuana joints.

DMX could face up to seven years in prison if convicted of all the charges. However, according to a report on www.mtv.com, the rapper's attorney, Ian Niles, maintains that DMX has "committed no crime", and intends to plead not guilty when he returns to court to face charges.

No trial date has yet been set.
