Dolly Parton received an honourary PhD from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville this morning (May 8).
The country superstar was awarded the degree at a graduation ceremony for the College of Arts and Sciences.
"Just think, I am Dr. Dolly!" said the buxom singer, adding, "so when people say something about 'Double-D,' they will be thinking of something entirely different."
The audience of just over 1,000 new graduates gave Parton a standing ovation, reports the Associated Press.
Parton has long been an advocate of education, and she funds a foundation called Imagination Library, which donates books to children before they begin school.
