Dolly Parton teams up with United Way for literacy program
Country star helps children learn to read
Dolly Parton has announced that she is teaming up with the United Way of America to expand her child literacy programme.
The country star's charity, the Imagination Library, and the national non-profit organisation have set a goal of providing free books to one million children each month by 2014. The programme operates in the US, the UK and Canada.
The announcement was made at a press conference in Detroit on Friday (May 15), where Parton also performed her hit song '9 To 5', reports the Associated Press.
The new goal doubles the amount of books the library programme currently provides.
