Former Doves members, Jez and Andy Williams, have formed a new band, called Black Rivers.

The brothers began recording music late last year and have released their debut single 'The Ship' as a free download, available from Blackriversofficial.com.

Speaking about the new act, Jez Williams said: "Some bands are rooted in the reality of the here and now. I suppose we've always been about escapism: searching for something. That's the link, but I wouldn’t want to think we sound too much like Doves. The exciting thing about Black Rivers is that we had the freedom to go wherever we wanted."

The duo will release their debut album in 2015 and will be playing a number of live shows over the coming weeks, making their debut supporting Neon Waltz at Manchester Gullivers (July 31) and The Shipping Forecast in Liverpool (August 1). They will also play Kendal Calling (August 2) and Belsonic (August 18) festivals.

Doves frontman Jimi Goodwin released his debut solo album 'Odludek' earlier this year. "I had this thing where I could hear people saying, 'The guy from Doves has made a solo record. I bet I know how that will sound,'" he said. "There's nothing contrived about this album, but if there was one thing I was conscious of it was being able to say to people, 'No, you don't know what it's going to sound like,' without being wilfully eclectic." He plays a headline slot at Port Eliot Festival in Cornwall, which takes place this weekend (July 24–27).
