Eminem is close to completing his new studio album, according to album producer and hip-hop veteran Dr Dre.

The 48-year-old, who has been working hard on Marshall Mathers' eighth studio effort, said the sessions have inspired him to start developing some new projects himself. "Em is finishing up his project," Dr Dre told Power 106 FM. "And for me man, I've just got inspired again to go back into the studio. I'm just really having fun with life and having fun with being creative and trying new and different things with myself, just trying to stay active."

Despite admitting that Eminem's recording sessions have inspired him, Dre gave no further indication as to whether he will continue working on his own long awaited follow-up to his landmark album '2001'. He added: "As you know, it's been almost 30 years for me in music. It's a little bit difficult to keep getting inspired to get back in there but you know, music is my first love and I'm going to continue to do that as long as I can."

In October last year, 50 Cent cast doubts on the status of Dre's long-awaited solo album 'Detox' after claiming that he didn't know if the rapper was "still excited" about the project. Dre's third solo album, the follow up to 1992's 'The Chronic' and 1999's '2001', has been in production for over a decade. It was initially supposed to be released in 2005 and then in 2010. A host of rappers have been linked to the album over the years, including Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z.

Eminem, meanwhile will headline this year's Reading And Leeds festivals which take place between 23 and 25 August.
