Echo & The Bunnymen singer searches for new talent
Ian McCulloch is on the hunt for the next big thing
Echo And The Bunnymen singer Ian McCulloch is backing a campaign to find the best up-and-coming musicians in the UK and Ireland.
The singer is leading the hunt along with the likes of ex-Island Records Managing Director Marc Marlot, Radio 2 contributor Paul Sexton and award winning producers Bacon & Quarmby to give young and up coming acts the chance to release their own material.
All entrants have to do is post their songs online, along with a little bit of information about themselves and they will then be viewed by hundreds of their peers for review, and by a judging panel led by McCulloch.
A total of six finalists will be chosen by the panel, who will then perform at a private gig in London in front of a select audience.
The overall winner will then have the chance to record a demo produced by Bacon & Quarmby, receive important management advice and potentially release a download single.
Speaking about the competition McCulloch said: "I'm really excited about being involved in this. I know myself how difficult the music industry can be to break into, especially if you sound or look a bit different to everyone else.
"But we need to encourage diversity in music, and campaigns like this are exactly the sort of thing that could uncover the next big thing in the music world."
As part of the nationwide search, the singer is holding a special webchat this Friday (November 24) for up-and-coming musicians.
