Ed Sheeran confirms new album title and release date
Ed Sheeran has announced the title and release date of his second album.

Sheeran will release 'x', meaning multiply, on June 23. It was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Rick Rubin, who advised Sheeran to record the album acoustically first and add further instrumentation afterward.

Announcing the news on his Twitter page, Sheeran wrote:

He also posted a link to short preview of new track 'Sing' here, and will deliver the full version on Monday (April 7) at 7.30pm on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show.

Sheeran, from Framlingham in Suffolk, released his debut '+' in 2011. Despite mixed reviews, it sold 102,000 copies in its first week on sale and went to No 1 in the album chart. It went on to sell 477,000 copies in the UK by the end of 2011, and has since passed the million sales marks, while a 64-date support tour with Taylor Swift in the US last year saw him achieve similar success in the States too.

Earlier this month, Sheeran responded to the pleas of the family of a terminally ill fan Triona Priestley. They had asked him to sing a song for her before she passed away. The Irish Independent reported Sheeran had called the 15-year-old, who was suffering from cystic fibrosis, and sang down the phone to her, granting her final wish. She died moments later.
