Pop star Ed Sheeran has claimed that fellow ginger men in Britain pretend to be him in order to meet women.

The singer recently told a US radio station: "There are a lot of ginger dudes in England who are using me," before stating that he has no problem with people stealing his identity because it means that ginger men are "finally getting laid".

"This is a good thing," Sheeran continued. "There are loads of ginger people in England who are smashing it and having a lot of fun."

He added: "We did get this random e-mail to my manager to this girl, while we were on tour in America. It was like 'I think I slept with Ed last night at a festival, but I can't remember if it was him or not. If it was him, tell him he's an asshole and if it wasn't, tell him I'm sorry for this e-mail'. This was like a couple of weeks ago."

Meanwhile, Isle Of Wight festival organiser John Giddings has retracted previous criticism he made of Ed Sheeran, recently saying: "The guy's a serious artist".

Giddings had previously claimed that the industry was failing to build headline-worthy bands, adding that: "If boring acts like Ed Sheeran are the future then we're all screwed!" However, he has since said, "I watch a TV show called Sons Of Anarchy and I’ve started getting the playlist on Spotify. I loved this song, and I found out it was him."

He added: "I’ve since met him and we had a good time together and laughed it off. It was a throwaway comment really. Good on him, he’s sold out three Wembley Stadiums and you can’t complain about that. The guy’s a serious artist."
