Editors gig stopped by armed police

Editors were forced to cut short their gig in Cologne last night (June 13) by armed police.

The band were playing the city’s Kulturkirche venue, when armed officers stormed the venue during the encore and demanded the band stop playing “due to them being excessively loud”.

“The venue was an old church over the road from a load of houses and, during our set, they called the police to complain about the noise,” bassist Russell Leetch told NME.COM. “The first we knew about it was when the police turned up just as we were starting our encore and told our tour manager to stop the set.”

Fortunately no shots were fired and the band managed to defy the police and play one extra song.
“Our tour manager bravely stalled them long enough for us to play ‘Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors’ but we had to finish before doing ‘Fingers In The Factories’,” said Leetch. “We owe Cologne a song and we promise to make it up to them next time as long as they don’t set the law on us again!”

The band are now set to play the 02 Wireless Festival. They play Leeds on June 16 and London the following day.
