Edwyn Collins announces new art exhibition

Edwyn Collins is launching an art exhibition in London next month - showcasing pictures he drew while recovering from his double brain haemorrhage three years ago.

The selection of drawings are inspired by 'The History Of British Birds' - a book that fascinated Collins throughout his musical career.

The singer, who first suffered the life-threatening illness in February 2005, will now show the sketches for the first time at The Smithfield Gallery between October 21 and November 1.

Collins rediscovered his love of art during his rehabilitation - drawing a bird every day, titled and dated, mapping his recovery.

The son of an art lecturer, Collins trained to be a draughtsman before founding Glasgow based group Orange Juice, and later forging a successful solo career.
