ACE UNDER PRESSURE!

Who says they're morose? There's balloons and everything!...

ELBOW debuted new material last night (February 19) as their biggest UK headline show to date found them in celebratory mood.

Playing London’s Brixton Academy, the Manchester heroes dropped in an as-yet-untitled instrumental track, which band insiders claim will be developed into a song for inclusion on their third album.

The show saw the band celebrate their incredible year by inviting fellow Manc innovators Alfie along to support, and even joined them as backing singers at the end of their set.

Alfie then returned the favour by joining Elbow onstage to sing vocals on encore ‘Grace Under Pressure’ – which is rumoured to be the band’s next single after ‘Not A Job’. At the end of the track, the venue was flooded with white balloons, which fell from the ceiling.

After the show, guitarist Mark Potter relived the excitement with NME.COM. "We just wanted it to be a big celebration of everything. Not the usual ‘Elbow being morose thing’, we wanted a party, and I think we pulled it off."

‘Not A Job’ is released next week (February 23). Alfie’s new single ‘No Need’ is out now.
