The band line-up for Manchester Vs Cancer

Elbow have joined the bill for this weekend's (January 28) Lancastrian super-gig Manchester Vs Cancer.

The charity show, which has been organised by The bassist Andy Rourke to raise funds for the city’s Christie Hospital, features a host of Manchester bands.

Speaking about his band's involvement Elbow frontman Guy Garvey said: “We’re absolutely over the moon about playing at this gig. The line-up looks amazing and it’s brilliant to be involved in an event that will make a difference to so many people’s lives.”

Rourke will also be appearing along with New Order bassist Peter Hook and Mani in new group Freebass, along with Badly Drawn Boy, Doves, 808 State and Stephen Fretwell, who are all playing.

Rourke's former colleague Johnny Marr is alos playing with his new band The Healers.

Speaking about the event Rourke explained: “It will bring together people and bands that have made Manchester famous. It will be huge and the idea is that this will be the start of an annual event to raise money for charity.”

Tickets for the bash are on sale now, for more information go to Manchestervcancer.co.uk/.
