Guy Garvey says fourth album is 'darker and heavier'

Elbow have almost completed work on the follow up to 2005’s ’Leaders Of The Free World’ album.

Frontman Guy Garvey told NME.COM that the new LP was very much a group effort

“It feels very much like we’ve done it just the five of us. There’s been nobody else in the room,” he explained.

Garvey added that it would highlight the growth of the band since their last album.

“There’s still lots of light and shade on it," he said.

"There’s just a lot of things going on. There’s ben some not so great stuff and some amazing stuff. Just in terms of the families that are growing up in the band - the babies are turning into little boys now, and everybody’s happy in that respect.”

Garvey went on to say despite this personal fulfilment, the beginning of 2006 was “quite difficult” for some members of the band

“It’s quite a mixed bag," he explained. "It’s certainly got the darkest stuff that we’ve done. I’ve never been so confident about anything we’ve written.”

Tracks slated to appear on the album include ’Friend Of Ours’, ’Starlings’, ’The Bones Of You’, ’Brambles’ and ’I Regret’.

A release date has yet to be confirmed.
