Elbow joined by Richard Hawley in London

Guy Garvey and co play sell-out Brixton Academy show

Elbow played a sold-out show at the Brixton Academy in London last night (April 15), with Richard Hawley joining the band to play two songs.

Taking the stage at 9pm (BST), Guy Garvey led his band through a set comprising of songs from Elbow's recent album, 'The Seldom Seen Kid', as well as older classics.

During the set Garvey hinted about the future ambitions of the band, saying that he hoped the crowd would be able to see them play live in a stadium some time.

Before playing 'The Fix', Garvey sighed and introduced the song with an apology that "Richard Hawley couldn't be here tonight," referring to the singer/guitarist who appears on the album version of the song. "Of course he is," he then said, as Hawley walked on stage and played guitar and sang with the band.

Elbow ended their three-song encore with a rapturous rendition of 'Grace Under Pressure', which saw the crowd chanting the lyrics, "We believe in love, so fuck you" loudly at the end of the set. the band were joined again for the song by Hawley and support band Two Gallants.

Speaking to NME.COM afterwards, Hawley said: "I love playing with Elbow - I've been into them for ages. They're like the blokes you can go down the pub with, aren't they? Except I do get to go down the pub with them!"

Elbow played:

'Starlings'
'The Bones Of You'
'Leaders Of The Free World'
'Great Expectations'
'Mirror Ball'

Absolutely bloody marvelous. I hope they do make it to a stadium tour one day - I'll be in the front row. Tricky to choose highlights, but 'Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver', 'The Stops' and 'Forget Myself' really did it for me...
